Common Queries

What is the cost of therapy?

I do not offer sliding scale or accept insurance.  I charge $200 for a new client session and $175 for all additional sessions.  These rates apply to individual sessions, family sessions, couples sessions and parenting sessions.  Group sessions are $75 per person.

How long does each therapy session take?

Assessment and orientation sessions, which are the first 2-6 sessions are 60 minutes.  After these initial sessions, each session is usually 50 minutes.

How long will I be in therapy?

The least amount of time I have worked with someone who left due to satisfactory results was about 6 months.  If you are struggling with a personality disorder, the minimum amount of time recommended is one year.  Therapy is over when you have met the goals you set out at the start of therapy.  I have several clients that I have worked with for many years.

How often would we meet for therapy?

In the beginning, when I am still assessing a client, I like to meet weekly.  The assessment process and your own preference can help dictate how often we meet.  Some of the therapies I offer have specific recommendations for frequency.  I can accommodate twice a week, weekly, every other week or every 4 weeks.

What type of therapy do you offer?

I am intensively trained in both Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as well as Radically Open DBT.  Additionally, I can offer supportive therapy.  You can learn more about each of these therapy options on the "Treatment" page of this site.

What kind of clients do you typically work with?

I work with females, males and nonbinary individuals who are adults, young adults, teens, tweens and elderly.  Many of my clients have depression and/or anxiety that has not been effectively treated by other therapies. I also work with many clients who have Personality Disorders including Borderline, Histrionic, Dependent, Avoidant and Obsessive Compulsive.

How do I get started?

You can call or text me at 713-299-2064 or email me at Jen@EdwardsClinicalTherapy.com to schedule an appointment.  I am able to provide up to 15 minutes of phone consultation for any questions you have prior to your first appointment.

What's up with all these forms!?

After you schedule your appointment, I will have you fill out legal forms and assessment forms.  The legal forms are very important as I cannot see you without them.  The assessment questions help save time in our first couple of sessions as they allow me to ask follow up questions based on your answers.  Yes, I will actually read these forms!

What happens next?

I usually meet with clients for 2 sessions of assessment, followed by treatment planning.  Treatment planning usually takes place at the end of the second session or the start of the third. If you decide to commit to DBT or RO DBT we will then start approximately 4 sessions of orientation.  If we decide supportive therapy is more appropriate, we will set some treatment goals and get started without the orientation phase.

Where do we meet?

I offer both in-office and telehealth sessions.  My office is at 1348 Heights Boulevard, Houston, TX 77008.  If you prefer to have sessions from the comfort of your home, whether for COVID safety or just convenience, I am happy to oblige.  I utilize Zoom for the telehealth option.
